HELL OR MEXICO

Set out today through country only fools and old ones know
My red roan pony just came four, he’s hoppin like a crow
My prancing paso fino mare’s my burdened beast in tow
And if we pass this way again, only Bluesdog seems to know

Well hoof by hoof and rung by rung we side-step to the wind
Pelting razor frozen rain breaking hide and skin
There’s troubled times ahead, this much I guarantee
Wrath and sorrow crashing down as far as I can see

Yonder mountains, rivers wide
Shadowed valleys, lo I ride
Through land of spirits I must go
Bound for Hell or Mexico

Thirty days and forty nights where nothin’s as it seems
Shrieking cry of secubus to shake me from my dreams
So saddle up before the dawn, for onward must I go
And pray for peace to take my heart in the land of Navajo

Well it’s serpents to the left of me and demons on my right
No face of kindness in my mind to shield me from this night
The howl of lost souls on the wind just won’t leave me be
There’s hell hounds on my trail
Oh my god’s forsaken me.

Yonder mountains, rivers wide
Shadowed valleys, lo I ride
Through land of spirits I must go
Bound for Hell or Mexico
